Breaks In Blakeney – Blakeney Hotels

Posted December 1, 2009 by Joyce Wan

008-seals Tucked away on the tip of the windy Norfolk coast is the tiny village of Blakeney. Its small size and idyllic nature belies the fact that it is a fairly popular tourist spot, especially during the warmer months. The reason for its popularity becomes clear when you see the village for yourself – surrounded by stunning sea views, neat little streets tucked between old buildings, and fat, noisy seals busking on Blakeney Point.

Stay
The Blakeney Hotel – Housed in an impressive building, this hotel is a surprising find in such a little village. Most rooms have gorgeous views over the surrounding estuary, and on a clear day, you may even be able to spot the seals frolicking on Blakeney Point. The décor wouldn’t look out of place in a larger luxury hotel – lots of classy neutrals and pale blues and greens that reflect the surrounding seascape. There are also some very stylish leisure facilities on the grounds of the hotel, such as a tranquil swimming pool and expensive looking gym equipment. Room rates start at around £75.

See
Blakeney Point – Teeming with wildlife, the Point offers nature-lovers the chance to get close to seals, as well as admire up to a hundred species of birds. Hordes of migratory ducks and geese can be spotted in the salt marshes, often stopping there to feed themselves before flying off again. Visitors who want to get a closer look at the jolly seal colony can arrange boat trips from Blakeney to Morston and back.

Eat
The Moorings – Located on the High Street, this casual, unpretentious restaurant dishes up hearty fresh meals to locals and tourists alike. The seasonal, local seafood and game are the stars of the menu, but leave some room for the delicious, homemade puds, all baked by owner Angela.
